First Baptist Church Sallisaw began its journey of faith on August 7, 1890, in Fairview, Indian Territory. What started as a small gathering has grown into a vibrant church community serving Sallisaw for more than 135 years.
A Brief History of FBC Sallisaw, Oklahoma
First Baptist Church of Sallisaw was founded on August 7, 1890, in Fairview, Indian Terrritory, and has been a part of the Sallisaw community for more than 135 years.
1890: FBC Sallisaw began as a small gathering in AFairview, Indian Terrritory.
1896: The church constructed its first building, a white framed house
1909: A new red brick Sanctuary was built to accommodate the church's growth.
Over the decades, the church expanded its facilities to serve the needs of growth. In 1959 a new sanctuary was contructed. Between the years of 1974-2019 remodeling was required along with the expansion of educational spaces, fellowship hall with amenities. We also added a gymnasium in which we were able to utilize for larger fellowships and recreational events.
FBC has been blessed to have wonderful pastors and staff over the years with Joe Taylor being our current Pastor.
We are actively iinvolved in ministry and community life, with various programs and opportunites for growth. We hope you will come and join us for worship and bible study.
