First Baptist Church Sallisaw was constituted at Fairview, Indian Territory, on August 7, 1890.
The first permanent building, a white frame house, was built in 1896. It was a one-room structure. The second building, a red brick building was erected in 1909. Over the years, educational buildings, a kitchen, a fellowship hall, and a gym were constructed. The present sanctuary was erected in 1959, and remodeled in 1974 and later in 2019.
Over the 135 years, twenty-six pastors have ministered to the people of Sallisaw. Numerous church services, marriages, and funerals have been conducted in our church for the glory of God. Statistics and historical facts cannot tell the whole story.
In 2019, Brother Joe Taylor became the pastor of First Baptist Church Sallisaw. God has greatly blessed our church in recent years with growth and ministry opportunities.
“So we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.”
